Palácio São Domingos

Palácio São Domingos is a two-story building located on Marechal Deodoro Street with classical architectural features marked by a recessed central section that creates visual balance. The structure features symmetrical proportions and detailed stone ornaments that characterize the entire facade.

Built in the early 1800s for a slave merchant, the building later served as Emperor Pedro I's summer residence before being converted into provincial government headquarters in 1834. Since then it has housed various state administrative offices.

The palace displays a blend of architectural styles with curved arches and intricately worked stone cornices that reflect how public buildings in Brazil evolved over time. Its facade shows the aesthetic values and construction techniques that were important during its early period.

The building currently houses the State Department of Labor and National Employment System offices located in central Niterói. Since it functions as an active government building, visitor access may be limited, so checking ahead about any open areas is advisable.

The original property was divided by eight gates that separated the main building from a lower ground level area. This space was designed for housing horses and stables, revealing how residential and functional areas were kept separate in that era.
