The São Domingos Palace stands on Marechal Deodoro Street, featuring two symmetrical floors connected by a recessed central section with classical architectural elements.
Built in early 19th century for a slave merchant, the palace became Emperor Pedro I's summer residence before turning into provincial government headquarters in 1834.
The palace represents the evolution of Brazilian administrative architecture, with its ecletic style displaying curved arches, balustrades, and detailed stonework cornices.
The State Department of Labor and Income operates from this building, which also houses a National Employment System office in central Niterói.
Eight gates originally separated the main building from its ground-level structure, creating a large space designated for horse stables.
