Biblioteca Estadual de Niterói

The Biblioteca Estadual de Niteroi is located in a neoclassical building at Republic Square and houses more than 60,000 items in multiple formats. The collection includes books, magazines, newspapers, and digital materials spanning different historical periods.

The building was designed by Italian-Brazilian architect Pietro Campofiorito and opened in 1935 during celebrations of Niteroi's centennial as a city and state capital. This opening marked a significant moment in the city's development and cultural establishment.

The library holds collections focused on music, theater, and children's literature that appeal to readers of all ages. These sections show how the place serves as a gathering point for different interests and generations.

The building offers accessibility features for visitors with different needs and provides resources such as Braille books and adapted computers. Staff members can assist with research, document retrieval, and guidance through the extensive collection.

The structure received heritage status from INEPAC in 1983 and underwent major restoration work in 2011. This restoration brought the building back to its original architectural specifications and preserved an important piece of local heritage.
