Limpopo

Limpopo Province extends across 125,754 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, from savanna plains to mountain ranges along the borders with Zimbabwe and Botswana.

The region transformed from Northern Transvaal to Northern Province in 1995, and finally received its current name Limpopo in 2002, derived from the bordering river.

The province incorporates three primary ethnic communities - Pedi, Tsonga, and Venda - each maintaining their distinct languages, traditions, and governmental structures.

Polokwane International Airport connects the province with major South African cities, while the N1 highway provides direct access from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe.

The Mapungubwe archaeological site contains evidence of an early African kingdom that processed gold and traded with regions as far as China between 800 and 1290 CE.
