James McNeillie Circuit, motor racing circuit in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
James McNeillie Circuit was a racing track built in the late 1950s in Bulawayo that opened in July 1961. The course stretched about 3.4 kilometers (2.1 miles) with eight turns and was laid out on a former airfield in Kumalo, several kilometers northeast of the city center.
The circuit opened in 1961 and operated until 1971, when it closed as a newer racing venue opened nearby. It hosted the Rhodesian Grand Prix from 1961 to 1970 and was part of the South African Springbok Championship Series, bringing together drivers from across the region.
The circuit was deeply woven into the regional motorsport scene, drawing drivers from South Africa and beyond to compete. Racing events here reflected how important the venue was as a hub for both local and international motor racing during the 1960s.
The site is no longer in use for racing and the airfield has returned to other purposes. Visitors can only trace the old route through changes in the terrain, particularly where the start and finish areas once stood.
John Love set a lap record here in 1967 when driving a Brabham racing car in just over one minute and eighteen seconds. This achievement remains a notable mark in the circuit's racing history and local motorsport records.
