Kebun Raya Cibodas, Botanical garden in Cianjur, Indonesia
Kebun Raya Cibodas is a botanical garden in Cianjur, Indonesia, covering roughly 84 hectares on the slopes of Mount Gede between 1,300 and 1,425 meters (4,265 and 4,675 feet) elevation. Paths lead through themed areas with plants from different altitudes and climates, while many shaded avenues link the rolling layout of the grounds.
Johannes Elias Teijsmann founded this garden in 1852 as a branch of Bogor Botanical Gardens for higher-altitude acclimatization. Further plantings were added in later decades, expanding the site for research and conservation work.
Visitors walk between beds organized by plant origin, such as specimens from the Himalayas or Australia. The greenhouses hold tropical ferns and orchids from different regions of the archipelago.
Fog often blankets the grounds in the morning, so a warm layer can be useful. Several toilets, prayer rooms and shelters are scattered across the site.
A dedicated moss park opened in 2006 and displays 235 species in three groups. Indonesia has its largest public collection of these plants at this single site.
