Gebang Temple

Gebang Temple is a Hindu shrine in Condong Catur located in a residential area of Sleman Regency, approximately 11 kilometers from central Yogyakarta. The site sits among green fields and features characteristic architectural elements typical of early temple complexes in the region.

Archaeological excavations in 1938 revealed that the temple dates to the 8th century during the Mataram Kingdom period between 730 and 800 AD. This discovery helped researchers understand the early Hindu settlement patterns across Java.

The temple displays a central Yoni and a Ganesha statue positioned on a yoni with a spout, reflecting its important role in Hindu worship. These elements show how the site served as a place for spiritual devotion and ritual practice.

The temple maintains regular opening hours and charges entry fees for visitors. The grounds are straightforward to navigate since the site sits on open terrain away from surrounding development.

Small divine heads emerge from window frames while seated male divine figures appear in niches throughout the structure. These decorative features resemble those found at Bima Temple on the Dieng Plateau, revealing a shared artistic tradition in Javanese temple design.
