Yogyakarta railway station, Railway station in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia.
Yogyakarta railway station is a train station in the city of Yogyakarta on Java, offering connections to other major cities across the island. The building sits between the platforms and faces east toward Margo Utomo Street, where two separate entrances are located.
The station opened in July 1887 as part of the southern railway line on Java, built by Dutch railway companies. It served from the beginning as an important hub for freight and passenger traffic between cities across the island.
The main hall has tall ceilings and wooden beams similar to those found in traditional Javanese buildings. Travelers often sit on low benches in the shade while waiting for their trains, and vendors offer cold drinks and local snacks nearby.
The station offers long-distance trains to Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya, as well as local commuter trains to Solo and Kutoarjo. Travelers will find waiting areas with seating and small shops for food and drinks before boarding.
The site is divided into two separate areas in the north and south, each with its own tracks for different train services. This layout allows the station to handle multiple types of trains at the same time without routes crossing each other.
