Military Academy, Military academy in Magelang, Indonesia
Military Academy is a military school in South Magelang in central Java that trains future officers of the Indonesian armed forces. The campus sits on the slope of Mount Tidar and includes classrooms, barracks, training grounds, and managed green areas.
The institution began operations in late October 1945, a few months after Indonesia declared independence, and initially used a former school building in Jogja. It moved later to Magelang, where it received Mount Tidar as a permanent site.
The name Canka Lokananta refers to the drum corps, which performs at official events and maintains its own identity within the armed forces. Uniforms and ceremonies follow traditions that have developed since the early decades of independence.
Access to the grounds is generally restricted to official events or with permission, as it is an active military training center. Visitors exploring the Mount Tidar area should be aware of restrictions on entering the campus itself.
Female cadets have been admitted since 2017, marking a shift in the officer pathway of the country. Visitors passing during a parade can observe mixed formations that show the generational change in training.
