Blimbing, Administrative district in Malang City, Indonesia.
Blimbing is a district in the northern part of Malang City, in East Java, divided into several urban neighborhoods called kelurahan. The area is made up of residential streets, local markets, and small shops spread along the main roads that cross the district.
Blimbing grew into an urban area during the 20th century as Malang expanded under Dutch colonial rule and then after Indonesian independence. Its current administrative boundaries were drawn as part of later reforms that divided the city into clearly defined districts.
The name Blimbing comes from the Indonesian word for starfruit, a tropical fruit that was once common in the area. Plant-based place names like this are typical across Java and reflect how local communities historically related to the land around them.
The district is best covered using a local motorbike taxi or angkot minibus, as the residential areas are spread out and not easy to walk between. The most activity is found near the markets and main roads during daytime hours, which is when the area is easiest to move around.
Blimbing sits next to the railway line running through Malang, and some of its neighborhoods border directly onto the tracks. This makes it one of the few parts of the city where daily life plays out right alongside passing trains.
