Banyuwangi Kota railway station, railway station in Indonesia
Banyuwangi Kota railway station is a rail hub in the city of Banyuwangi on Java with three tracks and an elevation of about 82 meters. The original building opened in 1985 and displays traditional Osing architecture; in 2025, a larger modern building was added beside it while maintaining the same architectural style.
The station opened in 1985 when the new railway line from Kabupaten Banyuwangi to Ketapang was completed, making travel across the region easier. In December 2019, it was renamed from Karangasem to Banyuwangi Kota to help visitors find their way more easily.
The station took its current name in 2019 to help visitors locate it more easily, as it sits near the town's main government area. Here, locals gather to meet friends or wait for their trains while vendors sell snacks and drinks nearby, creating a relaxed, community-oriented space.
The station is easy to reach and close enough to the city center that you can walk or take a short ride to shops and local restaurants. Trains depart at regular times to different parts of the region, making it straightforward to plan day trips or overnight stays.
A neighboring station called Kabat, located west of this one, closed in the 1990s and no longer operates. This abandoned station remains part of the region's travel history and once connected passengers to Bali and other nearby islands.
