The lake first appeared in copper inscriptions around 900 AD, marking the location of an early settlement on its southern shore.

Visitors can access the lake daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with entrance fees of 10,000 IDR and options for canoe rides across the water.
The lake's water levels shift with seasonal rainfall, occasionally submerging the ancient temples that dot its perimeter.
