The Leslie brothers established Canning Downs in 1840, constructing the first residential settlement on the Darling Downs region of Queensland.
The homestead represents the evolution of pastoral activities in Southeast Queensland, with structures dating from the late 1840s to 1900.
The property maintains modern facilities including foaling complexes, winter weanling barns, and veterinary buildings while preserving its historical elements.
The brick stables contain some of the earliest examples of corrugated iron roofing in Queensland, marking a significant architectural advancement.
