H2 Hinde Tree

The H2 Hinde Tree stands about 8 meters tall at Colliston farm and bears an orange metal tag identifying it as a significant parent specimen. The tree continues to serve as primary rootstock material for macadamia propagation in Australian nurseries today.

Michael James Hinde discovered wild macadamia seedlings in 1879 and replanted them on his property. This particular tree was established in the 1920s and became one of the original parent specimens for Australia's macadamia farming sector.

The tree became central to Australia's macadamia farming sector, providing genetic material for commercial orchards nationwide during rapid industry expansion. Its role in breeding programs made it a landmark in the country's agricultural heritage.

The tree is located about 9 kilometers southwest of Nerang on a private farm property. Visitors should arrange access in advance since it stands on working agricultural land.

Of the three trees originally tagged at Colliston, this specimen is the sole survivor and stands as a living witness to Australian macadamia history. Its endurance shows how a single tree can become the foundation of an entire farming sector.
