Yonki Dam

Yonki Dam is an embankment dam on the Ramu River in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands Province. The structure creates a water reservoir used for hydroelectric power generation to supply the surrounding region.

Construction began in 1986 and was completed in 1991. The finished dam allowed electricity generation to commence for Papua New Guinea.

The dam operates near communities representing different language groups of Papua New Guinea, where people maintain traditional practices while adapting to modern infrastructure.

The Highlands Highway crosses directly over the dam structure, making it accessible to travelers passing through the region. Views of the water and valley can be seen from the road that traverses the structure.

The facility operates turbines that convert the flowing water into electrical power for the surrounding areas. Future expansion plans include additional power generation units to increase output capacity.
