Yonki Dam, Embankment dam in Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea
The Yonki Dam stretches across the Ramu River with a height of 60 meters and creates a reservoir holding 335 million cubic meters of water.
The construction of this engineering project began in 1986, required an investment of 140 million dollars, and reached completion in 1991.
The dam operates near communities representing different language groups of Papua New Guinea, where people maintain traditional practices while adapting to modern infrastructure.
The Highlands Highway passes over the dam structure, permitting access to both the reservoir and the power generation facilities of PNG Power.
Five turbines in the Ramu 1 power station generate 77 megawatts of electricity, with two additional turbines under construction at the Yonki Toe facility.
