Our Lady of Solitude Monastery

Our Lady of Solitude Monastery is a Catholic monastic community located in the Arizona desert about one hour west of Phoenix. The site features a chapel, residential buildings for the nuns, and facilities designed to accommodate both the community and visitors.

The monastery was established in 2005 when Mother Angelica, founder of the Eternal Word Television Network, received an invitation to create a monastic community. The foundation marked the beginning of continuous religious presence in this remote desert area.

The Poor Clare nuns dedicate their lives to prayer and contemplation within these walls. Visitors can observe the rhythm of monastic life and witness how the community structures each day around spiritual practice.

Visitors can attend Mass at the chapel, though it is best to confirm times in advance before making the drive from Phoenix. The location is remote and surrounded by desert, so plan accordingly and bring water and sun protection.

The monastery provides dedicated spaces where visitors can spend time in retreat and reflection surrounded by the desert landscape. These facilities allow guests to experience contemplative time away from the bustle of the city.
