Eagletail Mountains Wilderness covers 100,600 acres (407 km2) about 65 mi west of Phoenix. The Eagletail Mountains form its northeast perimeter and the shorter Cemetery Ridge its southwest border, with plains on the southwest. It lies in southeast La Paz County, at the meeting point of Maricopa and Yuma counties, beside the Gila Bend Mountains.

The area received protected status in 1990 to preserve its natural desert landscape from development. This designation reflected broader efforts to safeguard remote wilderness areas across the country.

The Eagletail Mountains provide opportunities for recreation activities including hiking, wildlife observation, photography, and technical rock climbing at Courthouse Rock.

The closest Interstate 10 exit is Centennial, about 5 mi north; Tonopah lies roughly 20 mi east on I-10. From the south, unimproved roads reach the wilderness from Hyder, about 25 mi away. No reliable water sources exist inside the wilderness, so carry your own supply.
