Empalme is a city in Sonora, Mexico, located on the coast with about 30 kilometers of beaches. The town features soft sandy shores, calm waters, and nearby a large cactus garden with old plants that grow several meters tall.
Empalme was officially founded on September 15, 1905, and grew because of the railway connection that linked different regions. The Yaqui people had lived in this area since ancient times before the town became an important railway junction.
Empalme takes its name from the railway junction that shaped the town's growth. Today, the community still reflects this heritage through its layout and in how residents gather in public spaces to spend time together.
The city stays warm year-round, with summer temperatures reaching about 29 degrees Celsius and cooler months around 17 degrees Celsius. The dry climate and flat beaches make it easy to explore the area and spend time outdoors.
Between January and March, whales migrate to the waters offshore to give birth, making this period special for observing these creatures. This migration from colder waters shows how the area serves as a safe place for the next generation to survive.
