Christ of the Mercy, Religious monument in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
Christ of the Mercy is a 24-meter statue on a hilltop made from 195 metal and fiberglass pieces overlooking the bay of San Juan del Sur. The structure stands 134 meters above sea level and commands views across the coastal landscape from nearly every angle.
The statue was completed in 2009 and emerged from Erwin González's vision following his recovery from a serious illness. Costa Rican sculptor Max Ulloa Rayo directed the construction of this work.
The statue faces the local church and shows how this fishing village transformed into a place where faith and tourism became central to daily life. Locals and visitors gather here to mark moments of spiritual importance.
The site is open daily and involves a short climb to reach the plateau where the statue stands. Bring water and sun protection, as shade is limited in this area.
The statue weighs approximately four and a half tons and ranks among the eleven largest Jesus statues in the world. Its remarkable scale makes it a landmark that stays with visitors long after they leave.
