Chilpancingo de los Bravo Municipality

The municipality extends across 2,338 square kilometers in the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains, containing 114 localities and bordering multiple districts of Guerrero state.

The settlement received its current name in honor of Nicolas Bravo, a military commander who fought in the Mexican War of Independence during the early 1800s.

The municipality records show a predominant Roman Catholic population of 207,886 residents, while 38,862 identify as Protestant and 35,282 declare no religious affiliation.

The municipality connects to Mexico City and Acapulco through Federal Highway 95, with the Autonomous University of Guerrero serving as a major educational institution.

The locality of Jaleaca received the addition of Catalan to its name in 1889 to commemorate Antonia Nava, who participated in the independence movement.
