Crandon Beach

Crandon Beach is a coastal strand along Key Biscayne with white sand that stretches about two miles and benefits from an offshore sandbar that blocks strong waves. The shallow waters create safe conditions for swimming and water sports.

A wealthy owner purchased the land in 1908 to grow coconuts, and his heirs later donated it to the county, which transformed it into a public park. This shift in the mid-1900s opened the landscape to everyone.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center features displays about local marine life and runs educational programs for visitors. People come here to learn about the creatures and ecosystems that make this area special.

Lifeguards are stationed on the beach and equipment rentals are available for water sports. Parking spaces are provided, but the lot fills quickly on pleasant weekends, so arriving early is wise.

The Bear Cut Preserve within the park protects rare plants like beach peanut and Biscayne prickly ash that grow nowhere else easily. These wild patches offer a contrast to the groomed beach areas and reveal the original nature of the region.
