Pinellas County extends across a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, containing 24 municipalities including St. Petersburg and Clearwater.
The territory became independent from Hillsborough County in 1911, following a campaign by residents demanding improved road maintenance and local governance.
The county houses multiple museums in St. Petersburg, including the Salvador Dali Museum which contains the largest collection of his works outside Spain.
Residents and visitors access the mainland via three main bridges: the Gandy Bridge, Howard Frankland Bridge, and Courtney Campbell Causeway.
Fort De Soto Park spans five interconnected islands at the southern tip of the county, featuring military structures from the Spanish-American War period.
