Bank of America Plaza, Postmodern skyscraper between Midtown and Downtown Atlanta, United States.
Bank of America Plaza is a postmodern skyscraper between Midtown and Downtown Atlanta in the United States. The tower rises to 311.8 meters and contains 55 floors of office space, granite exterior walls, and a gold-leaf spire measuring about 27 meters in length.
The building was completed in 1992 as NationsBank Plaza after Citizens & Southern National Bank merged with Sovran Bank during construction. The building process lasted only 14 months, setting a speed record for towers of this scale.
The gold-leaf spire lights up every evening and serves as a landmark for travelers heading home from different parts of the city. Local film crews often use the building as a backdrop for productions because its shape connects immediately with the city skyline.
The tower has 24 elevators that take visitors to different floors, as well as conference rooms and a health club for tenants. A direct connection runs from the parking garage to the main entrance in the lobby.
The spire changes color for special occasions and displays green, red, or other light shades depending on the event. This tradition began shortly after opening and has become a fixed part of the nighttime cityscape.
