U-Rescue Villa, Residential complex in Old Fourth Ward, Atlanta, US.
U-Rescue Villa was a housing complex in Old Fourth Ward containing 70 units that sheltered roughly 270 residents. The buildings sat between Central Park and Parkway along North Avenue Northeast.
The Atlanta Housing Authority built this complex in 1970 as public housing. It operated until its demolition in May 2008.
The name came from a community group that advocated for residents during urban renewal efforts in the area. U-Rescue stood for Urban Renewal Emergency: Stop, Consider, Understand, Evaluate, expressing the neighborhood's voice during a transformative period.
The location had convenient access to public transportation, shopping centers, and community services in the neighborhood. Today the site is no longer there, so interested visitors can only explore its history through local records and archives.
The Cosby Spear high-rise was built on the same site after demolition and now houses senior citizens. This continuity shows how the location remained dedicated to providing housing for people with limited resources.
