The trail follows the route of the former Magnolia Rail Line, which once carried rail traffic through the region. The conversion to a public recreation route began in 2012, with the first section opening that same year.
The trail links several communities from Seabrook to Port Royal, running through Burton and Beaufort while showing off the Lowcountry landscape that defines this region. The path passes through areas where local life revolves around water and wetlands, connecting neighborhoods that share this natural heritage.
Six trailheads offer parking spots along the route, with restroom facilities at Broome Lane and Depot Road locations. The path is easy to access and dogs are welcome, with designated areas for pet needs.
The trestle bridges along the path serve as fishing spots where visitors can cast a line and watch for coastal birds. These structures offer rare moments to spot wood storks, king fishers, and other waterfowl moving through the marshes.
