Chesbro Reservoir, artificial lake near Morgan Hill, California
Chesbro Reservoir is a water storage lake in Santa Clara County, California, fed by Llagas Creek and surrounded by green hills and trees. The site offers bird watching, fishing, and shoreline walks with views of waterfowl and occasional birds of prey.
The reservoir was created in 1955 when a dam was built across Llagas Creek to store water for growing local communities. The dam was named after Elmer J. Chesbro, a local doctor who helped develop the regional water system.
The main parking lot on the east side provides wheelchair access and offers a paved path to the dam with good views. Bikes are permitted, leashed dogs are allowed, and the site opens from early morning to sunset with basic facilities available nearby.
The reservoir draws bird watchers especially during winter months when migratory birds stop to rest, including American White Pelicans, various duck species, and raptors like Red-tailed Hawks. Winter visits offer the best chance to spot Bald Eagles and Ospreys hunting with fresh catches.
