ARCO Arena, indoor arena in Sacramento
ARCO Arena was a large indoor sports venue in Sacramento that opened in 1988 and held over 17,000 seats. It served as the home court for the Sacramento Kings basketball team for 28 years and also hosted concerts, hockey games, rodeos, and other major events.
The venue opened in 1988 as Sacramento's new sports center, replacing an older temporary facility. After the Kings played their final game there in April 2016, demolition began in 2022 to make way for a medical campus and hospital on the site.
The site where the arena once stood is now open to the public and hosts a weekly antique market in the parking area. It is located in North Natomas and is easily accessible by car, though the main area remains largely empty as it awaits future development.
The venue was known for its intense noise level created by fans wielding cowbells and loud voices, making it one of the loudest basketball arenas in the league. The Sacramento Monarchs, a WNBA team, won championships there, and the arena also hosted NHL games featuring stars like Wayne Gretzky.
