Heceta Head Light, Lighthouse at Heceta Head, Oregon, United States.
Heceta Head Light is a brick lighthouse rising from a rocky headland along the Oregon coast and projecting far into the Pacific Ocean. The structure was built at a key navigation point to warn ships away from the rocky shore.
The lighthouse was built in 1892 as part of broader efforts to make the Pacific coast safer for shipping. The project represented an investment in maritime navigation and created a lasting landmark for seafarers.
The Siuslaw Indians called this coastal area ɫtúwɪs and used it for hunting sea lions and gathering seabird eggs from the rocks offshore. The place held practical importance for accessing the ocean's resources.
The site is reached by road leading to the headland, and visitors can access the base of the structure and explore the surrounding area. The best time to visit is during better weather when the paths are open and views of the ocean are clear.
The assistant lightkeeper's house was built in 1893 and now serves as an overnight lodging establishment, giving the site an unexpected modern use. This outbuilding connects directly to the maritime history of the place.
