Description
Waldo Lake Wilderness is a protected forest area in Oregon's Cascade Range spanning over 37,000 acres. The landscape rises from lower elevations to mountain peaks and features numerous lakes and streams winding through the terrain.
History
Congress designated this area as officially protected wilderness in 1984. This recognition secured the forest and its natural resources under long-term protection.
Culture
Native American tribes utilized the land around Waldo Lake for generations, establishing seasonal settlements and gathering resources from the forest.
Practical
More than 130 kilometers of marked trails connect the various lakes and lead through the forest. Summer offers the best conditions for travel, when most routes are snow-free and easy to follow.
