Crown Las Vegas, Unfinished skyscraper on Las Vegas Strip, Nevada.
Crown Las Vegas is an unfinished skyscraper on Las Vegas Boulevard that stands as a prominent abandoned structure in the Winchester area. The building was designed to house a casino, hotel rooms, and an observation deck within a single complex.
Development plans for this structure emerged in the early 2000s with construction expected to complete around 2014. The project stalled and remained incomplete as circumstances surrounding the property shifted over time.
The Federal Aviation Administration modified the building height regulations in 2006, leading to structural changes in the development plans for Las Vegas.
The site occupies the former location of Wet n Wild Water Park on the main Las Vegas Boulevard corridor. Access to the property is restricted, so the building can only be viewed from public streets and surrounding areas.
The architectural firm Skidmore Owings Merrill designed this project, a firm renowned for innovative high-rise work across the globe. The structure's intended height and design concept were significantly altered by changes in aviation regulations that affected construction plans.
