Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign

The sign features a distinctive diamond shape with pointed top and bottom angles, seven white circles representing silver dollars, red lettering spelling 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada,' and circular bulbs creating illuminated visual effects.

Constructed in 1959 by designer Betty Willis at a cost of approximately $4,000, the sign was built by Western Neon as a gift to the city and has remained unchanged for over six decades.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, the sign reflects mid-20th-century American optimism and Googie architectural style, appearing in countless movies, postcards, and promotional materials worldwide.

A parking lot with designated spaces was added in 2008 to improve visitor access and safety, allowing tourists to photograph the landmark without crossing busy Las Vegas Boulevard traffic.

Betty Willis never copyrighted her design, making it freely available for reproduction on souvenirs, and used light bulbs are sold as collectibles with proceeds often donated to charity projects.
