Grover Hot Springs State Park, Natural hot springs reserve in Alpine County, California.
Grover Hot Springs State Park is a nature reserve in the Sierra Nevada mountains that includes thermal pools, pine forests, and sagebrush meadows at about 5,900 feet elevation. Hiking trails cross the landscape and connect different areas of the terrain.
Local indigenous peoples used these thermal waters for generations because of their healing properties. In the 1800s, John Hawkins arrived in the valley and built the first bathhouse, which opened the site to outside visitors.
The thermal waters have held importance in the region for a long time as a gathering place. Visitors from surrounding areas come to experience the pools and outdoor activities together.
An entrance fee applies, and the hot pools operate year-round but close temporarily during thunderstorms for safety. Plan your visit to allow time for exploring the forests and trails as well as soaking.
The mineral water in the pools displays an unusual yellow-green color caused by natural minerals in the water. This colored spring flows continuously from the ground and creates a visual feature that often surprises visitors.
