Lake Walcott State Park, State park in Minidoka County, Idaho.
Lake Walcott State Park occupies 65 acres along the western shore of the lake with paved paths, picnic areas, and direct water access. Facilities include boat ramps for fishing and water sports, plus an adjacent protected wildlife refuge that attracts numerous bird species.
The park was established in 1999 as a recreation area built around the Minidoka Dam, a much older structure that controls water flow on the Snake River. This dam had shaped the landscape decades before the recreational facilities were developed.
The park runs educational programs at its visitor center where people can learn about the water birds and native plants around the lake. Staff members guide visitors through nature walks and help newcomers try outdoor activities for the first time.
The park is open year-round with boat ramps, tent camping, RV hookups, a few cabins, and restrooms scattered throughout. Visitors can picnic, fish, or launch boats from several designated areas depending on their preferred activities.
The park contains a 21-hole disc golf course, a sport that blends golf and frisbee, which many visitors overlook when planning their trip. This activity gives a different reason to spend time at the park beyond fishing and boating.
