Temple of Great Compassion

The Temple of Great Compassion spans 10,600 square meters and contains three main halls in its western section and multiple ceremonial spaces in the eastern section.

Built in 1658 during the Qing dynasty, this temple held the skull relic of monk Xuanzang until 1956, when it was transferred to the Patna Museum in India.

The temple maintains the Tianjin Buddhist Institute and features a collection of Buddha statues made from bronze, iron, stone, and wood in its Cultural Relic Palace.

The east yard contains the principal Daxiong Hall with a 7-meter tall statue of Sakyamuni, while the west yard houses administrative offices for religious organizations.

Inside the Great Compassion Hall stands a 3.6-meter mud statue of the Thousand-hand Kwan-yin, surrounded by 9,999 small Buddhas carved on its lotus throne.
