Renmin Bridge

Renmin Bridge is a road bridge spanning the Pearl River and linking the Haizhu and Liwan districts of Guangzhou. It carries nine traffic lanes as part of the city's Inner Ring Road, serving as a major corridor through the metropolitan area.

Built in 1967, this was the second highway bridge constructed in Guangzhou after the Haizhu Bridge. Its creation reflected the city's rapid growth and the need to connect expanding districts during a period of urban development.

The bridge serves as a backdrop for the annual Dragon Boat Festival races, which take place in the stretch between this structure and the Jiefang Bridge. This event has become central to the city's communal celebrations and draws crowds to the waterfront.

The bridge is best experienced by walking across it or viewing it from the pedestrian areas, particularly during quieter morning or evening hours. Be prepared for heavy traffic during peak times, and allow extra time if crossing on foot during congested periods.

During recent renovations, four European-style bridgeheads and an advanced lighting system were added to the structure. These architectural additions create an interesting blend between its 1960s origins and contemporary aesthetic touches.
