Oi Kwan Hotel is an Art Deco building on Yanjiang West Road in Guangzhou, positioned directly along the Pearl River waterfront. It rises 15 floors and features a facade that mixes geometric lines with decorative details typical of the style, topped by a revolving restaurant on the upper floor.
The building was completed in 1937 and held the title of tallest structure in Guangzhou for around 30 years. It went up during a period when the city was absorbing Western architectural influences through its role as a major trading port.
Inside, original furnishings from the 1930s are still in place, including vintage telephones and Art Deco decorative elements that give the corridors a feel of another era. Visitors walking through the hallways notice how the design choices reflect the tastes of a city that was actively reinventing itself.
The hotel is right on the Pearl River waterfront and easy to reach on foot from the surrounding riverside area. From this spot, many parts of the city center are within walking distance, making it a convenient base for exploring the older neighborhoods nearby.
The revolving restaurant at the top was the first of its kind in Guangzhou when it opened, drawing visitors who came just for the novelty of dining while the room slowly turned. Some guests reportedly booked a table not for the food but simply to watch the city shift past the windows.
