Moon bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Liwan District, China

The pedestrian and bicycle bridge spans a waterway in Guangzhou with its high arch connecting both banks. The construction combines steel and concrete, featuring wide walkways on both sides. Metal railings line the entire length, while the surface provides slip-resistant paving for safe passage.

The bridge emerged during Guangzhou's urban development in the early 2000s. Its construction aimed to meet growing demands for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in Liwan. It represents the shift toward modern infrastructure solutions in this traditionally developed neighborhood.

The structure serves residents of Liwan as a popular gathering spot for evening strolls and social activities. During warmer months, people of different generations meet here to converse and enjoy the waterside setting. It fulfills an important function as public space in this densely developed district of Guangzhou.

The structure features lighting systems beneath the surface that illuminate the path safely at night. Access is provided via ramps at both ends without steps. Several bus lines serving Liwan and connecting to other districts stop nearby. Crossing is possible around the clock.

The reflection of the arch in the water forms a complete circle when the surface is calm, an effect based on traditional Chinese garden design principles. This design element, known as a moon bridge, aims to create harmony between structure and nature, with both halves complementing each other perfectly.
