Wuhan Poly Plaza, Modern skyscraper in Wuchang District, Wuhan, China
Wuhan Poly Plaza is a modern skyscraper in Wuchang that rises 221 meters into the sky. The building has a distinctive chair-like form with a main tower of 46 floors connected by a bridge at the 20th floor to a 20-story annex.
The renowned architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed this project, with construction starting in 2009 and finishing in 2012. The building marked a major development for the district and surrounding area.
The building houses a movie theater and various restaurants that serve the daily needs of visitors and workers. These facilities make it a gathering place for entertainment and dining in the heart of the city.
The lower five floors house a shopping center that is easily accessible to visitors. The upper sections contain office spaces for businesses, so access there is typically restricted.
The structure creates an open area between the main tower and the annex, giving visitors an unusual view. This open space distinguishes it from typical tall building designs found elsewhere in the city.
