Baotong Temple

The temple stands at the southern foot of Hongshan Hill, featuring multiple halls, including the Meditation Hall, Great Hall, and Abbots Hall.

Founded during the Liu Song dynasty between 420-479 AD, the temple underwent multiple name changes, from Dongshan Temple to its current name Baotong Temple.

The temple maintains its status as one of the Four Buddhist Temples in Wuhan, serving as a center for Buddhist education through the Wuchang Buddhist College.

The temple opens daily from 07:00 to 16:00, with free admission and convenient access via bus lines 519, 557, and 608 to Hongshan Bus Stop.

The temple houses ancient iron bells dating back nearly 900 years, which made the temple known throughout the region for their distinct sound.
