Chase Ranch, Historic cattle ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.
Chase Ranch is a cattle ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, featuring a traditional adobe main house, pastures for livestock, and an orchard planted in the 1800s. The property spans thousands of acres and includes a 14-room house with outbuildings such as a tack room.
The ranch was founded in 1869 by Manley and Theresa Chase as part of the Maxwell Land Grant. It operated continuously through four family generations until operations changed in 2012.
The location displays ranching practices through educational programs and maintains a working cattle operation while preserving original equipment. Visitors can observe the daily methods that have been part of this landscape for generations.
Visitors can tour the 14-room house, grounds, and tack room through guided summer visits offered from June through August. This on-site experience allows you to see the infrastructure and operations of an active ranch up close.
Today the property is jointly managed by the Chase Ranch Foundation and Philmont Scout Ranch, creating a bridge between private ranching preservation and scout education. This partnership keeps cattle operations active on the property while also serving as a learning site for young people.
