Circle Ranch, ranch in Sublette County, Wyoming, United States of America
Circle Ranch is a working cattle farm with historic buildings in Sublette County that has operated for over 100 years. The property includes several wooden structures, including an original cottonwood log cabin built by Otto Liefer in the 1870s and a large main house constructed in 1905.
Otto Liefer settled the land around 1878 and built a cottonwood log cabin that still stands today. After he sold to James Mickelson in 1895, the property grew into a large operation with thousands of cattle and has remained in the Mickelson family ownership for over 125 years.
The name refers to the ranch's layout and land use patterns. The buildings show how workers and families organized daily life on the property and which spaces served different purposes.
The ranch has no special visitor facilities like parking or restrooms, so visitors should come prepared. It is advisable to research ahead and contact the family beforehand, as this is private property and access may be limited.
Nicolas Swan built a second old log cabin on the grounds around the same time as Liefer, making both cabins among the oldest standing structures in the entire county. These two early buildings side by side offer a rare look at the earliest settlement phase of the region.
