James Cant Ranch, Historic ranch in Dayville, United States.

The James Cant Ranch spans across both sides of the John Day River, featuring a two-and-a-half-story main house, barn, bunkhouse, and various agricultural structures.

Scottish immigrant James Cant purchased the property in 1910 from Floyd Officer, who originally homesteaded the land in 1890, and developed it into a substantial ranching operation.

The ranch complex demonstrates the evolution of western ranching practices, transitioning from sheep production in the 1910s to cattle operations by 1946.

The National Park Service maintains the property as part of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, allowing visitors to explore the historical buildings and agricultural implements.

The ranch's barn measures 66 by 120 feet and contained specialized areas for sheep pens, horse stalls, milking stations, and a grain storage system.
