Délı̨nę

Délı̨nę is a small settlement located on the western shore of Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories. The community sits along the lakeshore, surrounded by forests and open terrain.

The area was first developed by the Hudson's Bay Company when it established a trading post in 1825. The settlement later became known as a supply point for Arctic expeditions, including Sir John Franklin's polar journey.

The name Délı̨nę comes from the Sahtu Dene language and means 'where the waters flow'. The residents continue their traditional ways, which shape daily life in the settlement.

The settlement is accessible only by charter flights from larger cities in the Northwest Territories. Transportation options vary depending on the season and weather conditions.

The settlement is the only permanent community on the shores of Great Bear Lake, the fourth largest lake in North America. This isolated location makes it a rare and notable destination for visitors.
