Baca County, County in southeastern Colorado, US
Baca County extends across 2,557 square miles of land with vast open spaces, sharing borders with Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma at the southeast corner of Colorado.
The Colorado legislature established Baca County in April 1889 from eastern portions of Las Animas County, naming it after pioneer settler Felipe Baca.
Agricultural activities form the foundation of local life, with farmers maintaining traditions through generations while adapting to modern farming methods in Colorado's rural landscape.
The county seat of Springfield provides government services, with additional communities including Campo, Pritchett, Two Buttes, Vilas, and Walsh serving the population of 3,506 residents.
The U.S. Forest Service manages 220,000 acres of Comanche National Grassland within the county, preserving natural habitats and offering outdoor recreation opportunities.
