Qal’at al Bahrain

The excavated site spans 17.5 hectares and contains seven distinct layers of civilization, from residential buildings to military structures dating back to 2300 BC.

The Portuguese constructed fortifications at the site during the 16th century, adding their architectural elements to the ancient Dilmun settlement remains.

Archaeological investigations have revealed copper tools, pottery collections, and trade seals that demonstrate connections with Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley civilizations.

The archaeological site maintains regular visiting hours with guided tours available in multiple languages and includes educational exhibits about the excavation findings.

The settlement mound rises 12 meters high and contains evidence of continuous human occupation spanning over 4,000 years of Arabian Gulf history.
