Southern Governorate

The Southern Governorate extends across 488.85 square kilometers, incorporating urban areas, coastal regions, and the Hawar Islands within its boundaries.

The region evolved from its initial municipal structure established in 1919 to become one of Bahrain's four governorates following administrative reforms in 2002.

The Southern Governorate maintains regular community gatherings where residents participate in traditional celebrations and engage in local decision-making processes.

Residents can access governmental services through local administrative offices and participate in municipal elections held every four years.

The governorate contains the Sakhir region, where large national events take place, and manages the Hawar Islands archipelago off the coast.
