Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Medieval palace complex in Old City, Azerbaijan
The Palace of the Shirvanshahs spans across three courtyards with 52 rooms, featuring limestone walls and octagonal structures connected by passageways.
The palace became the residence of Shirvan rulers in 1411 after moving from Shemakha following an earthquake that destroyed their previous capital.
The complex includes the Divankhana ceremonial hall, Shah Mosque with its 16-meter minaret, and multiple religious structures representing medieval Azerbaijani architecture.
Visitors can access all sections of the palace complex, including the main building, mosque, burial vaults, and bath house, from 10:00 to 18:00 daily.
The underground water reservoir demonstrates medieval engineering methods with its spring water collection system and architectural preservation techniques.
