Padma Bridge

The Padma Bridge spans 6.15 kilometers across the Padma River, connecting Munshiganj, Shariatpur, and Madaripur districts through two levels of steel and concrete.

Construction began in 2014 after Bangladesh decided to finance the project independently when international lending organizations withdrew their funding commitments.

The bridge represents Bangladesh's engineering achievement as the country's first self-funded infrastructure megaproject, connecting 19 southern districts to the capital region.

The structure features a four-lane highway on the upper deck and a single railway track on the lower level, enabling both vehicular and rail transportation.

The bridge stands as the longest water crossing in Bangladesh and ranks as the 25th longest bridge in the world, constructed with 41 spans across the river.
