The Maracá Biological Reserve spans across 103,976 hectares of land, featuring dense Amazon rainforest and diverse ecological zones at 249 meters elevation.
The Brazilian government established this conservation area in 1979 to protect a representative portion of the Amazon ecosystem within the Uraricoera River region.
Research teams conduct systematic studies of local species through a network of trails designed by the Roraima regional center of PPBio in 2006.
Visitors need prior authorization from environmental authorities to enter the reserve, which remains accessible only for scientific research and educational purposes.
The reserve contains multiple populations of White-bellied spider monkeys, contributing to the preservation of this specific primate species in northern Brazil.
