Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, hospital in Vaughan
Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is a modern facility in Vaughan, Ontario, the first hospital built in the city and the first in Ontario in over 30 years. It has 342 beds, advanced emergency departments, surgical suites with minimally invasive technology, specialized clinics for women and child health, stroke care and mental health services, plus private patient rooms with large windows and space for family members.
Construction began in 2016 and finished in September 2020, with opening in February 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility was built to address increased demand for healthcare services and is operated by Mackenzie Health, which also manages Richmond Hill Hospital.
The hospital carries the Cortellucci family name after their substantial donation to make the project possible. Local residents and businesses have actively supported the facility, reflecting how the community values accessible healthcare in their region.
The hospital sits at the corner of Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street, north of Canada's Wonderland, offering easy access for vehicles and ambulances along with nearby bus stops and a transit terminal. The facility features well-lit, clean and organized areas with friendly staff and easy navigation, plus accessible entrances for all visitors.
The hospital will become home to a new School of Medicine run by York University opening in 2024, training future doctors and healthcare professionals in the region. This brings additional research and expertise to the community and makes it more than just a treatment facility.
