Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport, airport
Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport is an international airport located south of Cameroon's capital, handling both international and domestic flights. The terminal building houses check-in desks, waiting areas, a currency exchange, restaurants, and car rental counters, providing basic services for arriving and departing passengers.
The airport opened in 1991 and replaced an older facility that was located near an air force base. Its construction was necessary as the city grew rapidly and the previous airport became increasingly crowded.
The airport takes its name from the nearby town of Nsimalen, reflecting its location in the region. Travelers from many countries pass through daily, creating a meeting point where different cultures and languages come together.
Taxis wait directly outside the terminal and offer quick trips into the city, usually taking around half an hour. Car rental companies have desks inside the terminal, and the N3 highway connects the airport directly to the city.
The airport features a runway roughly 3,400 meters long, allowing large aircraft such as the Boeing 747 to land. This length makes it the second busiest airport in the country and connects Cameroon to about eleven different nations worldwide.
